Sometimes you get tired of running from zombies, man. In Dying Light The Beast, thankfully, there's a solution to that.

Having tried the game at gamescom 2025, a lot of the staple Dying Light-isms are all there: I'm running around a big open world, parkouring and avoiding hordes of zombies that slow down while the sun is out and get aggressive when it isn't. 

So how do you shake it up and make it fresh? Add in your own ability to go feral. 

Dying Light The Beast: Beast Mode, Baby!

There I was- trying to raid a caravan when suddenly, a zombie about twice my size walks in lugging a piece of concrete as the season's hottest accessory. Worse still? He had groupies. Given my own trusty wrench was falling apart, that left very few options on the cards. 

I'm a really big fan of how the Beast mode actually works- basically, its length depends on what's around you. Activating it on fodder enemies makes it feel much shorter than these mini-bosses, really giving it the vibe of those horror transformations. 

It also helps that it works so well with Dying Light The Beast 's own movement system. Bobbing and weaving out of enemy attacks then going for your own really helps you feel like a dignified savage- rewarded for your very dandy footwork with blood and viscera of all the zombies. 

Given the meter itself fills with your combat prowess, it's a fun way to mess with the open areas of the world. In one segment, I had to clear a courtyard of zombies before getting into a Water Pump for story reasons. Once I'd confirmed a big enemy was there Beast Mode was but a foregone conclusion- a few hits on the enemy before making sure to deal with the adds to thanks to my enhanced stats. 

From story to traversal to enhanced violence, there's a lot to enjoy with Dying Light The Beast- if you're a fan of the earlier entries this is going to be one to keep an eye on.
